1950s Original Oil Painting, Signet Swans Kitsch, Signed and Framed by Peggy Barley
-Details-
A Peggy Barley original oil painting in original frame, dated 1958.
Peggy Barley lived in Hove, Sussex and trained at Brighton School of Art. She was a keen gardener and specialised in painting flowers, so her subjects very often came from her own garden.
Peggy exhibited at Sussex Artists' Exhibitions and in London and Provincial galleries.
Sourced in Scotland, a pencil inscription on the back with the artist name, address and date.
This is extremely 50s in style, subject matter and colour. Taking influence from Vernon Ward in its content, a hint of Monet's water lilies and colours similar to Tretchikoff using bold colours with depth.
The painting technique is suggestive with soft brush strokes, suggesting the softness of the of the signets plumage and transient nature of water.
Dated 1958.
-Notes-
As seen condition with wear and chips to the paint on the frame and aged discolouration.
The painting remains vibrant with rich colour. The surface is clean and there is no craquelure, damage or paint loss.
Back is original with original inscription.
